Since a few days I have been working on a double quilt with Dresden Plates for Joan. This quilt is for her favorite cousin and she choose fabrics in warm autumn colors. I shall sew it in QAYG technique, quilting each block separately and sewing the quilted blocks together. The quilt has a total of 16 Dresden Plate blocks, each finished size 20″ x 20″.
After cutting all the fabrics I started with piecing :
Cutting of the tips to turn over the seam :
Everything prepared for piecing :
Sewing, pressing, sewing, pressing :
All 16 blocks done! I am still not sure about the size of the dark red circle in the center. Should it be 3,75″ or 4,5″? What do you think? The Dresden Plate itself is 17,5″.
Happy Sunday, we have hot summer weather and the beach is not far away!

Thanks, with a little bit of luck (and some work) I should finish the quilt this week.

I am way behind–but catching up. If not too late, I too vote for the smaller center. I love the palette selected for this Dresden Plate quilt! First I’ve seen monochrome approach, and it works well.

Thanks for stopping. At the end I went the “middle” way and decided to have the center 4″. This is larger than the circle that came with the Dresden ruler (3″), but smaller than the one I originally pieced (5″).

I like the smaller dot. These colors are so happy.
