dresden plate quilt finished

Today, on a hot Friday afternoon in Spain I have sewn on the binding to the Dresden Plate quilt. Now I just have to cut of some threads and I can start my weekend – and holidays!

I have used the walking foot to quilt Dresden Plate block. I have marked the echoing lines using a small square ruler and a bone folder – normally used in card making. I prefer this tool to a pen as I do not have to iron off the marked lines.

After quilting all the blocks I have prepared contineous strips to sew together the quilt, using the bias tape maker by Clover, sizes 18 and 25. I have trimmed the blocks to the same size, joined the blocks with wide zigzag stitches and added the strips. The thinner strips (cut 1,5″) in yellow and orange on the back. The wider strip (cut 2″) in dark red on the front. QAYG tutorial by Made by Chrissie D.

Now I am adding on the binding. This time I have cut the strips 3″ to finish with a wider binding.

Repeating the center of the plates as the strip and binding was a great unifying choice! Looks very good.

  3. Your plates remind me of sunflowers. How did you like the quilt as you go method? Thanks for sharing your lovely, and large, quilt.

I do like the QAYG method. I would not be able to quilt this quilt size on my “small” Bernina. I think it is a good alternative to finish nicely and neetly large quilts.
