about

My name is Barbora  I am originally from Prague, Czech Republic. I grew up in Moshi, Tanzania and my other stations were Germany and United Kingdom. Since 2000 I live near Alicante in Spain on the wonderful Costa Blanca together with my husband Helmut, a dog and a cat.

When I was a girl my Mother taught me how to sew. In the years of my professional life I did not have enough time for this hobby. A few years ago I found a place offering patchwork classes and I decided it was time to get out the sewing machine and get it working.

My grandfather Vaclav Tikal was a painter and he loved working with colours. This could be the reason I like working with colours. My love of fabrics and sewing lead inevitably to patchwork and quilting.

So here I am : learning by doing and I am enjoying it !! It is never too late to start learning something new !!

Each and every piece is handmade and one of a kind – so originality is guaranteed.

Looking for a unique gift? Interested in a custom-made baby blanket, quilt,  pillow cover, place mat … ?
Fancy a design – but not the color scheme? Need a different size? If yes, please do not hesitate to contact me.

I value your comments and would love to hear from you  ……………

The pic of your grandfather is really cool and about how you had come to love colors, as he did. That’s really nice of you to offer tutorials and share your quilting tips here. I never could figure out how to use a sewing machine, but had been interested in taking a sewing class nearby. Your blog just reminded me to check that sewing school out, which I keep forgetting to do so. Thanks!

Thanks for your cheerful comment! It is never too late to start with something new. I discovered patchwork and quilting just a few years ago. The moment I started, I knew it is the right thing for me. It is all about fabrics, colors, design, piecing, cutting and quilting. Quilting is good both for your head and your hands. Hope to see some sewing progress in the near future on your blog!

Hi Barbora! I wonder how I haven’t ‘met’ you before; I have seen your comment some where but some how our ways hadn’t crossed. I love your quilts and the beautiful colours you use! I’m from Finland but have lived 20 years in Greece. My grandfather was a painter. We have two dogs and one cat … what else we have in common?! Sunny wishes from Crete! x Teje

Hello Teje, thanks for stopping. It is really incredible how much in common we have. Both living in a foreign country, I have left Prague nearly 30 years ago and now living in Spain for almost 17 years. We both love animals and our grandfathers were painters. I shall mark your blog on the reader so that I can get all your latest posts! Greeting from sunny Spain, Barbora
