just photos – no quilts

Today was a perfect autumn day. Even thought it rained a bit in the morning, the rest of the day was just sunshine and nearly clear skies. I could not resist and got out my camera to capture some plants in the garden and the rising moon.

late afternoon - umbrella plant

late afternoon - rosemary in blossom

late afternoon - aeonia

late afternoon - nearly full moon over houses

late afternoon - nearly full moon

strubbel - catalan sheep dog

Tomorrow is an other quilting day, got a project in work, this time a quilt from Elizabeth Hartman’s second book Modern Patchwork.

We Love Colour compiled by Susanne Woods

Wow, found this wonderful book on the LMQG. Thanks for the inspiring article and the superb quilt photos. This is really some inspiration for my future projects with just solid fabrics.

We love colour has 16 bold and beautiful Kona Solids quilt designs created by 16 iconic designers, published by Stash Books.

I’m a huge fan of Kona Solids, great colours and made from quality opaque cotton.  This book has 16 designs using the whole rainbow and all thoroughly modern too!  Each chapter is a new quilt, with the designers explaining the inspiration behind the design.  The first is a fabulous outsize courthouse step designed by Cherri House.  Above is Amy Ellis Colour Frame Quilt.  All the designs are beautifully written, easy to follow designs and a perfect start for any modern quilter. It also has some more challenging designs that would be perfect for the more experienced.  The projects include precision piecing, improvisational piecing and applique.

Above is Lupine by Emily Cier and quilted by Cathy Kirk, just perfect hexs.  My personal favourite is Orbit by Jennifer…

avenue loop – another quilt is finished

We had some rain over the weekend. So this was the right time to finish my Avenue Loop quilt. Somehow I got hook on half-square triangles. An easy unit, but thousands of possibilities how to finish a quilt design. Here I used Freshcut collection by Heather Bailey. Love the colors and the fabrics were nice to work with.

Size : 55″ x 69″ or 140 x 176 cm. Quilting detail of the center piece – once more meanders with loops. This time I used a white polyester quilting thread So Fine! #50 from Superior Threads.

Backing has a favorite fabric from Freshcut collection and a soft aqua hue in solid.

Double folded binding is machine stitched from front to back using the soft aqua solid fabric.

As mentioned before we have had some rain lately. The dog stayed inside :

and the cat took over his kennel and enjoyed the soft land-rain, fresh air and the peace outside :

Happy quilting………..

star gaze quilt finished

After all I have finished my last quilt project (not that there are no UFOs in the closet, a few of them is still waiting in the queue to get finished).

I designed this pattern for my patchwork classes as the ladies wanted to make a single bed quilt. An ideal beginner pattern : just 2 different blocks, accuracy in cutting and piecing the right colors together. I have enjoyed working on this quilt.

Enjoy rest of the weekend, happy stitching

new stash

The last 2 weeks have been very busy for me. Unfortunately I did not have time to work on my quilting projects or to write a new post on the blog. Today was a wonderful day, full of sunshine and blue skies. I got some time to take a few photos of my new stash. All these fabrics are sitting patiently in the cabinet waiting to be taken out and converted in a perfect quilt.

Here are my new “babies” :

1. – Bella from Lotta Jansdotter – a complete collection plus 2 matching fabrics for the backing

2.- A colorful stash for a custom quilt – I opted for fuchsia, orange, turquoise hues and a light pink fabric for the background

3.- Some fabrics for my stock, salmon in solid and my favorite polka dots in pink and orange

As next Tuesday and Friday are public holidays, I hope to catch up with my sewing. I do really miss this soothing sound of the sewing machine.
