2021 – a year of finishes … Like this one : Summer Sampler 2019 Quilt. Finally pieced together and quilted! Here links to my piecing progress in this quiltalong : first part, second part and third part.
I have opted for a 4 x 5 block layout and I did not piece one block of the 21 Summer Sampler 2019 block series. All blocks are 12″ finished and sewn with different patchwork techniques. Like foundation paper piecing and freehand foundation piecing, a variation of the drunkards path block with curves, half hexagons and half rectangle triangles or working with diamond cuts. A very good quiltalong to learn new piecing and sewing techniques
I have added two inch wide strips between the blocks. The corner stone units with square in square block – are also two inch finished. For the interior squares I have used all solids as in the quilt, mostly Kona solids.
Backing is a bedding sheet from IKEA with a paisley pattern in white/grey/black colors.
I have quilted the Summer Sampler 2019 with a wavy stich pattern using the walking foot quilting. Quilting thread is from Aurifil – Mako 40/2 – color 2600 Dove.
For the binding I have used all solid fabrics in the quilt, changing color shade all 20″.
And a sneak peak photo with a hint for my next blog post :
