Time flies, in this post I have blogged about my fabric choices for the Sugaridoo/Bernina quilt along. In the meantime, I have received instructions to make three different rows. 3 done, 9 more rows to go, only that I have to wait till autumn for the quilt design release. A very long time!
Part 1 – row 5 : Hashtag, it is the row with yellow fabric. This one was real fun piecing. Straight forward tutorial, good cutting and piecing directions. Irene also has videos for each row, but I am “old school” and prefer instructions on paper to a video tutorial.
Part 2 – row 1 : On Point, it is the row with the pink fabric. The row instructions and the tutorial were for paper piecing with freezer paper. Somehow I didn’t want to paper piece the row in sections and sew various blocks/units together. Instead, I used my 60º triangle ruler and made my own calculations. The design is the same and the On Point row is in one piece, only a bit higher than the original. I will cut the row when I have all rows pieced and before I sew the quilt top together.
Part 3 – row 12 : Tetris, it is the row with purple fabric. Once more easy to follow and straightforward instructions. This row is to practice an accurate 1/4 inch seam allowance. There are 40 seams in the row’s length. So any little inaccuracy will show on the length. I was very confident, this can’t be a problem for me. But because I sew a scant a bit under 1/4 inch, it all added up. And the row is longer. My options are : check well the size of each section. Get the seam ripper into action and increase the seam allowance. Or wait till I assemble the entire quilt top and decide what to do. No rush at the moment!
Stay tuned to the continuation of the Suigaridoo/Bernina quilt along. The new row designs get released end of each month.
Happy quilting
