Since I had so much fun and learnt a lot with the Summer Sampler 2019, I have signed up for a new quilt along. This time it is a free one from the Bernina blog. Irene from Sugaridoo made the quilt design. The quilt consists of 12 rows altogether. Each row has a different design and the instructions come end of the month.

The first row (actually row number 5 of the quilt design) was released already end of November. The next row instruction is due on the 26th of December. The quilt along will take place over the next 12 months. In meantime I have selected fabrics and will start with piecing after the holidays or even in the new year. Then I can cut and piece 2 rows at once.

background fabric is Kona Solid in Haze – Robert Kaufman
accent fabric is Kona Solid in Pewter – Robert Kaufman
diverse color solids from Kona Solids – Robert Kaufman and Bella Solids – Moda Fabrics

grey cushion cover – a last minute christmas present

Before flying to Prague over the weekend, I have made a quilted grey cushion cover as a Christmas present for my Mum. The pattern is Santa Fe from the Fat Quarter Shop blog.

I must admit, that it was a mistake to choose at late night the fabrics for this cushion cover. The light grey fabric for the middle half-square triangles doesn’t have enough contrast to the white fabric.

Well, there is always something new to learn with each new quilting project.

I like the pattern and will make some more next year. But will be more careful with the colours and intensity of each hue.

On the following two photos you can se the optical difference when the cushion cover is moved 90°. The cushion cover is 20″ x 20″.

two cushion covers with kaffe fassett fabrics

The idea to make these two cushion covers came from Saija when looking at her blogpost. Instead of the blue hues and white background, I decided to go for fabrics from my Kaffe Fasset Collective stash. For the background I have used Kona Solid in eggshell. Here the cushion covers from the front :

Piecing details, the pinned sandwich before quilting. I always add backing to my cushion covers sandwich : Bomull from IKEA. The orange backside has rectangles cut 2,5″ x 3″.

I have pieced the yellow back with rectangles cut 2,5″ x 4,5″ and squares cut 2,5″ x 2,5″. See quilting details on the photos below.

For the half-square triangles I have cut 24 squares 4″ x 4″ – from the Kona Solid in eggshell and 24 pieces 4″ x 4″ from my Kaffe Fassett Collective stash. For the golden accent triangles I have cut squares 2″ x 2″.
