a thank you for my sister-in-law

During our stay in August in Germany we were warmly welcomed by my sister-in-law Doris and her family. We got pampered and sought after like real royals. It was a holiday to remember. So I decided to make a Christmas table runner for Doris as a thank you. This one shall be in the mail by Wednesday.

And my dear friend Irena wanted a “neutral” table runner for her daughter-in-law. One, that she can use all year around, with no Christmas motives. Once more I have used Kaffe Fassett fabrics.

I have also written a short pattern just with material required, cutting and design – Funky Table Runner, a pdf file.

I can’t believe that we already have October, up to now we have had a super weather year. September was nearly too warm and I still go swimming every day. Take care, thanks for stopping, Barbora

christmas in summer

First working week is now behind me and I still trying to get back into my old rhythm. One more week and I shall be back to normal. Anyway, I finished quilting the Christmas table runner. I have quilted the trees in free-motion with a loop design. For the background I took out my walking foot and followed the tree contours with a straight line.

I really enjoyed piecing the top and it was so much fun to quilt it, so I decided to carry on and prepare some Christmas presents for my family. This is the first time that I am so early in the year with Christmas gifts. For a change I decided to make the next lot with my Kaffe Fassett stash and choose some vibrant colors. I pieced a tree and a wonky star top. Hope I have today enough time to make the sandwiches so that I can quilt both of them sometimes next week.

luxor throw basted and FMQ with meanders

Finally I had enough time to finish the quilt top, select the backing fabric, prepare the quilt sandwich and get down on my knees to do the pinning. You can’t really see the basting pins on the photo, but believe you me, they are there!!

Whilst walking the dog I did some thinking about how to finish this throw. Should I stick to the walking foot and follow the ziggy zaggy pattern or should I get out the quilting foot and do some FMQ? After considering all pros and cons with both techniques I decided to quilt with a meander pattern in FMQ. Looking through my “quilting thread stock” I picked up a light pink Mettler 40wt quilting thread. This the result of my quilting session this afternoon (a quarter done) :

More quilting tomorrow, and the day after tomorrow and the day after …. Anyway looking forward to do the binding.

WIP and linking up with other blogs

Over the last week I have worked on a new quilt using my last purchased stash from Kaffe Fassett. I have always been fascinated with the burst of colors and patterns on all fabrics by this amazing designer. So now it is time to make a throw. This is WIP – up to now I have pieced the blocks together. The next step is to arrange all the blocks to a nice patchwork top, match the colors and fabric designs. Here a first impression:
