A Finished Top and Strawberry Fields

Abstract Dream quilt is slowly getting into shape. I finally finished the top. It is once more time to make a quilt sandwich accompanied by a TLB sandwich.

I have also spent some time taking photos at the Patchwork exhibition in Almoradi.

We had a lot of visitors on both days and Friday evening altogether nice meal.

And not to forget – we are in the strawberry season and I am busy making preserves.

My dog is now waiting for me – he wants to see his friends. I am off and hope to quilt soon !!

Nomination for the Kreativ Blogger Award

There were some nice emails waiting for me when I came back home from Prague. Avis from Oh Sew Tempting had nominated me for the Kreativ Blogger Award. That was really smashing news. Avis is a very busy blogger with lots of nice ideas and understandable tutorials. I wish I would be as hard-working on my blog and quilts as she is on hers.

First I had to come back to “normal life” – look what happened the last week at work, do some normal woman work at home and go shopping, help the gardener, groom the dog…  Also my husbands son is here for a week. After dealing with all the different obligations, I have finally got time to write a new post.

To accept the nomination for the Kreativ Blogger Award I have to give price of my “seven secrets”. Well, here they are:

  1. I love to live in Spain. After leaving my home town of Prague I have lived in Germany and the UK, but Spain is definitely my favorite European land.
  2. I like travelling, but over the years I got a bit lazy and stay rather at home. Time for a change!!
  3. I am fond of gardening – did this successfully in northern Europe. But in our garden we have only solid rock and gardening has become a very hard job.
  4. Trying to be a vegetarian – but a nice Angus steak tastes sooooooooooooo good
  5. Get the grip to write this blog more regularly and finish my started pdf tutorials.
  6. Joining a “dog school” with Strubbel was one of my good decisions this year
  7. Sometimes spending too much time on the computer and internet

Another part of the nomination is to link with my favorite blogs:

  1. Oh, Fransson ! – I think Elizabeth is very talented, knows how to work with colors and fabrics. Her tutorials are very well written and I admire here free-motion quilting style
  2. a stitch in dye – Malka has incredible colors, here fabric design is one of my favorite. But I was not fast enough to order fabrics from her latest collection
  3. lillalotta – Anna does perfect custom tapes/labels for quilts. Here illustrations and paintings are just wonderful
  4. Quilts of Hope – Deborah does a super job. By donating a patchwork block and Deborah’s commitment, you can help girls in Romania
  5. Teaginny Designs – Alex has wonderful ideas, combines perfectly patchwork blocks with quilting patterns
  6. Dianajessie – bags and purses + lot more ideas
  7. Fibra Creativa – a patchwork blog from Spain

Next time maybe some info about the Prague Patchwork meeting.

Happy Easter and till the next time, Barb

Finally Quilted and Waiting for Binding

Yesterday was the day I decided that waiting longer to quilt the “Rock Around the Clock” sandwich will not make it any better.  My hands felt a bit stiff (since a few weeks I did not have time to work on my patchwork projects), but my mind was longing to start. I decided once more for a free-motion pattern with my variation of meanders. Starting to quilt a larger piece felt a bit awesome in the beginning, but after a while I got into the right  mood. I have finished the entire top in something over 3 hours. I also have managed to prepare the binding strips. So binding the quilt is my goal for today.

Here a small preview of the quilting pattern:

Gone binding, enjoy your day!

Abstract Dreaming Quilt is Getting Slowly into Shape

A few weeks ago I received a nice thick envelope from Hawthorne Threads : a fat quarter bundle of Echo from Lotta Jansdotter. Altogether 20 different fabrics. I was thinking over and over what kind of quilt could I possibly make out of these colourful fabrics. I decided to go for a classical log cabin with a plain white center. So all blocks are finished and the design wall is waiting for a definitive layout.

Block size : 8,5″ square, quantity : 63 blocks, finished quilt size : 54″ x 63″.

Looks a bit wild, but I think at the end of the day the colours and patterns of this collection harmonize extremely well. I know exactly what kind of quilting work is awaiting me in the next few days : finish the quilt top, prepare the backing, get the sandwich done, pin and quilt and quilt and quilt !!

Happy quilting, Barb
