an unexpected visit to prague

This and next week I am on an unexpected visit in Prague. My father Vaclav died this Tuesday after a short illness at the age of 85. I came to be with my mum in this complicated time. My parents got married 1951 and celebrated this summer 61 years together.

So, no sewing and not a lot of blogging in the next few weeks. I need some time to understand this situation and learn to live with it.

A Short Break from Sewing and Quilting

The last week was busy for me – even without sewing and quilting. Weather over Easter has been wonderful and I went (instead of quilting) with my husbands son Thomas to the near Sierra Espuna in the Murcia region. Thomas choose a nice trekking tour of about 4 hours with a stop for lunch. We hiked through a valley, a forest with its shade and on a mountain road. A very nice day in unspoilt nature – as you can see on the photos:

Not last be not least: I have bought some fabrics at The Prague Patchwork Meeting. Somehow I cannot get my fingers from the oranges and pinks.

I have left 2 of my quilts with Loles in Almoradi. She is preparing a patchwork exhibition that will be open next Friday and Saturday. I shall also take photos of the official opening and of course of all  displayed quilts. Looking forward to this – once more a new experience!!

Easter Break

Time is flying so fast. It has been now over 3 months since I visited my parents. My luggage is already packed and I am off to Prague tomorrow early morning. I shall visit the 6th Prague Patchwork Meeting that is held over this weekend. I am looking forward to see lots of displayed quilts (for inspiration) and visit all the shops. My goal is to buy only quilting and piecing threads. Lets wait and see what kind off stuff I bring back!!

My teacher Loles is organising a small patchwork exhibition in Almoradi (my next village) on the 20th April. I am taking part and I wanted to display the Rock Around the Clock Quilt. But as I have sold it, I have to finish the Abstract Dreams Quilt fairly quickly. Well, I shall have time over the long Easter weekend as we have 2 days off.

That’s all for now, happy sewing, Barb

The heat wave is here

Every cold winter I am looking forward to the heat and sun in the summer. But of course when it comes, I am also happy that we have a powerful air-conditioning in the house.

It has been some time since I came back from my visit to Prague. I haven’t been really into sewing. Just made 2 pillow covers with a Dresdner plate theme so that I do not forget how the sewing machine works.

We had also a friend from Holland staying with us for a week. Martein and me went for a nice days trip to the nearby Sierra Espuna that is situated near the town of Murcia. It has a wonderful, nearly undestroyed nature. The day was overcast – but this was ideal for hiking. We made a small tour to a viewpoint :

Last Saturday I went to visit a small craft show in San Juan. This was a nice change and I met some interesting people. But in July and August in Spain the clock stops to work and everything and everyone goes into the summer sleep (at least in the Alicante region). Beach, Med, water and ice cream are more important than business. Summer is fun, serious work can wait for later.

But nonetheless I have started with a new quilt, once more with bright colours. The top is finished and I need to buy some more batting and fabric for the reverse. This time it will be a nice solid fabric combined with a few colorful triangle blocks or just plain stripes.

Pin Wheels So these are all news for now, Barbora
