first qayg project finished – mary’s quilt

After a “lazy” winter, the work in my professional life has picked up. I have had a few busy weeks and there is no change in sight. So for the moment I had to reduce patchwork and quilting just to classes. I enjoy the classes very much, my lady pupils are wonderful and we have a good time together. We are working on a QAYG quilt, most of the blocks are now ready for quilting. Last week I have helped Mary to finish her quilt and decided to go for FMQ with meanders :

Here a detail of the QAYG seams that join the individually quilted blocks :

And finally a photo of the finished quilt :

Maybe over the weekend I can work on the blocks of the Skill Builder BOM by Pile Of Fabric.

Happy sewing everyone, thanks for stopping, Barbora

last week update

This time more a photo post without many words.

  • Eastern in Spain is a very traditional church festivity with many processions and celebrations all over the country. Here a few pictures taken at our local village.

books, tiles and no excuses

On my way back home at the airport in Prague I was deciding whether to buy these glossy magazines with a lot of advertisement or to get a nice book. This time a book won : The Chef by Martin Suter. I am glad that I bought it, reading was excellent, the story fresh and there was space left for imagination. Martin Suter does not disappoint me. The last book I read from him was : Allmen und die Libellen. Another amusing story with an interesting plot.

Patchwork and quilting is set aside at the moment : visiting my Mum, getting back to normal from my holiday mood and now we have my husbands son and family with us. But since I have read this post from The Burned Hand  I have started to think about my attitude. Instead of finding excuses for not doing something and I just should do it!! I have all my fabrics for the Skill Builder BOM by Pile of Fabric together, so tomorrow is the right day to start this project and pick up with the others.

A few weeks ago we went with clients to an antique construction material shop situated about 2 hours drive from us. There were thousands and thousands of different articles on display. When walking around the spacious plot I found my favorite pieces : antique tiles. They have amazing designs – they are like models for patchwork patterns.

more snow

Since living for so long in south-east Spain, near the Mediterranean Sea, we hardly ever see snow. In all the 20 years we had snow just once – on the mountain tops approx. 30 km in land. And it stayed only for a day. Snow is like a coin for me : on one side I am fascinated with this white layer of something magical; on the other side I hate it – it is cold and wet.

Anyway, I could not resist to take some more photos.

Hope this snow will melt quickly and warm spring will soon take over from winter!

from spring into snowy winter

Over the last few weeks we had some nice warm weather and sunshine, still cold at night, but spring was in the air. All this has changed in the moment I landed in Prague. I left Alicante with some nice 20-22º C in the daytime and Prague welcomed me with a fresh layer of snow and minus temperatures. I must admit that we still officially have winter – for another few days.

I am enjoying my stay here, my Mum is as happy to have me here as I am. We have a lot to do, meet family and friends, do some shopping. This time I didn’t buy any more fabrics to boost my stash. I have only brought quilting threads from Gütterman and Mettler, but in a large variety of colors. They are for practicing and learning free-motion quilting with the Skill Builder Block of the Month by Pile of Fabric. I am taking a break from sewing so that I can start with new energy when I am back at home. Hopefully my ordered fabrics have arrived by then from the UK.

Happy Sunday, thanks for stopping,

Barbora
