blocks and a sandwich

My work life is still a bit hectic, with more appointments as usual, so patchwork is on a hold. But I finally got to start the Skill Builder BOM blocks. I have pieced the first 6 blocks, haven’t decided yet on the quilting design. I suppose there is no hurry. Got the backing fabric – a wonderful flowery design in a rich orange, wadding is waiting on the shelf. Wednesday is a public holiday, so I shall have time for quilting.BOM 6 blocks

Fire and Ice quilt top has sat in the cupboard for a few months. Since it has rained for a few days (very unusual for this time of year), I got it out and made a quilt sandwich. Once more  this top has a floral backing fabric – with tulips.

Lots to quilt – my days will be “quilty” busy, looking forward to that.

Thanks for visiting, have a nice week, Barbora

first qayg project finished – mary’s quilt

After a “lazy” winter, the work in my professional life has picked up. I have had a few busy weeks and there is no change in sight. So for the moment I had to reduce patchwork and quilting just to classes. I enjoy the classes very much, my lady pupils are wonderful and we have a good time together. We are working on a QAYG quilt, most of the blocks are now ready for quilting. Last week I have helped Mary to finish her quilt and decided to go for FMQ with meanders :

Here a detail of the QAYG seams that join the individually quilted blocks :

Maybe over the weekend I can work on the blocks of the Skill Builder BOM by Pile Of Fabric.

Happy sewing everyone, thanks for stopping, Barbora

log cabin block variations and 2 quilt alongs

I do like to keep the blog up to date with my sewing and quilting whereabouts, but sometimes I just can’t get on the computer and write post. Anyway, I have finished 4 pillow covers for Mary. Mary wanted them in green hues and with log cabin blocks. I made 2 different sizes : 16″ x 16″ / 40 x 40 cm and 20″ x 20″ / 50 x 50 cm.

Whilst reading some quilting blogs, I came over 2 projects :

  1. The first one is by Alyssa from Pile O’ Fabric and I decided to take part. The quilt has a nice modern design, is a QAYG. Here I can learn and practice free-motion quilting skills. Yesterday I decided on the colors I want to use for this project and Kona Solids have won. I have ordered a lot of FQs at The Village Haberdashery in the UK.
  2. The second project caught my eye because of the rectangular blocks and very different techniques. Find all details at the cute life under Something New Sampler.

Lots of sewing ahead….

Thanks for visiting my blog, Barbora

another quilt finished : lollipop III and 2 pillow covers

Once more a very busy week not only at work but also on the quilting side. I have finished the Lollipop III quilt with 2 matching pillow covers. So instead of writing lots of words I shall post some photos :

Today I had a hard time taking a few shots, the sun was shining but the wind was quite strong and the quilt was very lively. Both other photos were taken indoors and the colors are a bit different.

And the pillow covers backing is with my favorite fabric :

more swoons and a new lollipop quilt

I haven’t posted for some time. But this does not mean that I had a lazy week. I have cut, pieced and made a sandwich for quilting the next Lollipop quilt. This time it will be once more straight line quilting with the walking foot in vertical, horizontal and diagonal directions.
