ordered on 2012, made in 2013 – lollipop II quilt

My first “big” quilt of 2013 is finished. It is a custom order from a client in Germany that liked my original Lollipop quilt, but wanted it wee bit larger and in orange/purple hues. I have suggested to use fabrics from the Notting Hill collection by Joel Dewberry in magenta. Wonderful fabrics and the colors are just fantastic. Size : 153 x 213 cm / 60″ x 94″.

This time it was straight line quilting in horizontal, vertical and diagonal directions using the walking foot. A nice to change to free-motion quilting.

The backing and binding are finished using in the same orange fabric.

I have made 2 blocks from the Swoon pattern. They will make a cushion cover for my Mum.

Looking forward to the weekend – lots of time to sit at the sewing machine !

Happy sewing, Barbora

another quilt finished and quilt care labels

I am so happy that I have finished the lap quilt for my mum. 500 little squares found their place in this quilt. Cutting square size is 2 1/2″, finished square size is 2″.  It turned out nicely, the colors are not exactly from my usual palette, but I think the result is nice. It is actually the first time that I have used so many fabrics in gray and black. I have quilted it with a straight line pattern in diagonals. I have used a dark gray quilting thread from Gütermann Sulky in 30 weight. The binding is completely machine stitched from back to front.

Another issue that kept me busy the last week was designing labels for quilts. People have asked me how they can wash a quilt without ruining it. So I decided to make some labels with not only quilt care but also quilt name and size. Inside the labels is free space for a personal note.

This Tuesday I go Prague, looking forward to that! No sewing or quilting for the next 10 days, Barbora

next quilt finished and one more to go

I finally finished the Garlands quilt for Joan. It is a Xmas present for her granddaughter. The pattern is from the book Modern Patchwork by Elizabeth Hartman. The original size is 49″ x 68″. I added a few more rows and a column to it make to a single bed quilt.garlands quilt

Size : 54″ x 80″; free-motion quilted with meander and loops. The backing has a polka dot fabric with a pink background and white dots. Sorry about the photo, but because of heavy rain I could not take any pictures outside.

I have one more quilt in work : a Happy Birthday, Mum quilt. My mum turned 80 last Sunday and I hope to finish it till next Tuesday, so that I can take it with me to Prague. It is a throw for my Mum and for her new armchair.

quilt size change – my first dolly quilt

I have finished my very first dolly quilt – what a size difference to the other quilts I made over the last few months. It is a matching set of 2 pillows and a small quilt blanket.

Now back to normal size quilts. I wonder how your quilt tops look like from the back. I have taken this picture when pressing the top to make the quilt sandwich …

… and here it is all ready for quilting.

So, free motion quilting and binding is my target for next week.

avenue loop – another quilt is finished

We had some rain over the weekend. So this was the right time to finish my Avenue Loop quilt. Somehow I got hook on half-square triangles. An easy unit, but thousands of possibilities how to finish a quilt design. Here I used Freshcut collection by Heather Bailey. Love the colors and the fabrics were nice to work with.

Size : 55″ x 69″ or 140 x 176 cm. Quilting detail of the center piece – once more meanders with loops. This time I used a white polyester quilting thread So Fine! #50 from Superior Threads.

Backing has a favorite fabric from Freshcut collection and a soft aqua hue in solid.

Double folded binding is machine stitched from front to back using the soft aqua solid fabric.

As mentioned before we have had some rain lately. The dog stayed inside :

and the cat took over his kennel and enjoyed the soft land-rain, fresh air and the peace outside :

Happy quilting………..
