black, white and grey pillow covers

Over the last few weeks I have worked on my “mystery” blocks and today I can show you the right side of the pillow covers. This is my first time to work with black, white and grey. It was something else, but I do prefer bright colors.

There are 6 different patterns, all quilted in straight lines with the walking foot and a zipper closure. The size is 20″ x 20″; only the Dresden Plate pillow cover is 18″ x 18″. All pieces are put together with a decorative binding in matching fabrics.

horizon quilt top + first finish in 2015

My last post was in 2014, but this doesn’t mean that I had a quilting free time. I have finished the Horizon top and it is ready for quilting. So this will be my project of the next few weeks. I haven’t decided yet how to quilt it, but it will be straight lines with the walking foot.

My first finish in 2015 is a Drunkard’s Path Quilt #2 for Joan. Once more the Wedding Ring or Love Ring block design. I like how the colors came out – I specially like the combination of rich yellow and soft purple.

Quilt size : 84″ x 84″ / 213 x 213 cm

Block size : 28″ x 28″ / 71 x 71 cm

Another quilt in QAYG technique. I have quilted all nine blocks separately and joined them together with home-made bias strips.

My next new project will be some pillow covers – I need to make something smaller!! I have set my eye on a charm pack from Moda Fabrics Persimmon. The color range is very soft, not exactly my normal choice. But why not try something else!?

twister quilt and ready for new challenges in 2015

Even though it was not my goal to finish the twister quilt this year, I made it with a bit of luck (and time). I also have a name for this colorful piece : Indian Summer Quilt. The red and yellow hues remind me of a wonderful sunny and windy autumn day when the leaves start to change their colors. Shimmer of green trees and sparkling blue water surface. It was fun to work with the twister tool : cut, piece, cut and piece the blocks.

The quilt has 12 blocks, each is 23″ x 23″. Quilted in straight lines with the walking foot with distance of 1/2″ between the stitches. When putting the quilt together, I have alternated the vertical and the horizontal stitch direction.

For the backing I have used red marble and solid light green fabrics. For the blocks I have used a range of Kaffe Fassett fabrics in different hues. More details here :

Now I have time to work on my Horizontal quilt and I have a custom quilt on order – with Drunkard’s Path block.

Today I just realized that it has been some time since my last post. As we had some rain this afternoon (after months) and the temperature dropped, I decided that it was the right time to get on the computer and share some news. We have had very hot and sunny weather over the past weeks and I did not feel like sitting inside for a long time and sewing. But after all I finished another 2 small projects for Christmas :

a set of place mats for my sister-in-law. The design is by Lorna at Sew Fresh Quilts :

a wall hanging pattern that I found at Wooden Spoon on Flickr. I like to work with small squares and I wanted to try quilting in circles.

The outer circles are easy to quilt with the walking foot, but the smaller the circles are a challenge. Next time I have to sew slower and with a firm and steady hand.

So, for this year I have my Christmas decoration done. I am looking forward to start with my next project. This will be a new sewing room in the house and it means moving some furniture. I will have all my fabrics, wadding, tools and the design wall in one room. No need to tidy up every time I stop as I can close the door and leave everything as it is till the next time.

drunkard’s path #2

This weekend I have finished a set of 2 pillows for my niece Andrea. Once more the Drunkard’s Path block, but this time in nice bright colors. Andrea stayed with us a week and so she could choose fabrics from my stash. I am happy with the result – this kind of Drunkard’s Path is absolutely to my taste. What a difference colors can make.
