Successful Week

Well, well, well, one more quilt is finished. It got the name SUGAR ‘N SPICE as it has nearly all the colors of the rainbow. And just imagine all the tastes we can enjoy between sweet sugar and hot spice.

The quilt fabrics are a combination of Pure Elements by Patricia Bravo and  Innocent Crush by Anna Maria Horner. I have added some blue and turquoise hues from my stash to round-up the color palette.

I have listed this quilt both on my Etsy and Dawanda  shops. SOLD !!

My first advertising has finally been put up. My boss let me some space in front of the office and my patchwork ad is beside the construction ad.

From my point of view this week was succesful –            a finished quilt and advertising in its place!!

Since the family has left and is now in Barcelona, I have more work waiting for me. The extra bedroom is now free for basting and so the Bazaar Style top shall be soon prepared for quilting. I just have to sew together the backing and pinning is the next step.

Till next time, Barbora

Lazy May

The time is running – we nearly have half of May through and I am regenerating after my 6th and hopefully last chemo. I had it on the 29th of April – same day as the royal wedding in the UK – so it is a date to remember. My previous PET scan was OK, cancer in remission and my next medical appointment is mid July.

I did some work on the Innocent Crush quilt, but there is still much more quilting remaining than there is finished. Never mind, I am not in a hurry and nobody can take this work from me. Here a detail of the part already done :

In between I also got a year older and one of the gifts I received was a silver Pandora bracelet. It looked really naked without any charms, so I decided to change this and got a few of them. Here my first charms in the collection :

I’ll be definitely looking for some more nice charms in light blue. This can become an obsession, the internet is full of inspiration. Today whilst drinking coffee with my colleagues in our favorite cafeteria I even bought a scratch card from the ONCE Foundation. Here you can win a nice amount of money and at the same time you can support the blind in Spain, but it was not my day. Well I got 2 small refunds that I immediately reinvested, but after 3 more scratch cards no money was left over.

But there were even more presents that I received : a beautiful orchid plant, chocolate and Champagne from my dear friend Erin. Chocolate was gone within 2 days (very nice), Champagne had to wait for some time in the fridge untill all medication was over. It was really smooth and I enjoyed each and every sip of it !! The orchid is “smiling” at me every day from the window sill. I must take a picture for the blog to show the wonderful color it has.

Hubby Helmut went with me to a large department store in Elche and I decided that I desperately need a new shirt with blue and white stripes. So I got one and I am happy about it.

These are about all the news, hope you enjoyed reading, Barbora

Sewing Easter is over

The Easter holidays have passed very quickly. The weather was not Spanish at all – we have had some heavy rains and even a storm with lightning!! We decided to stay at home and get the heating working. So there was a lot of time for working on my patchwork ideas and sewing.

The project I am working on is a combination of 2 stashes : Innocent Crush by Anna Maria Horner and Pure Elements by Pat Bravo.  Even though the fabrics are from different designers and different producers, I think that the colors of the pattern and solid fabrics really match. Here a small forecast of my work over the last few days:

This week is one day shorter – the  same as next week. A bank holiday on Monday makes the weekend longer, i.e. more time for patchwork. I have ordered all fabrics for the backing and binding of this project and the Bazaar Style. And hopefully I can also pick up my favorite batting for the forthcoming weekend work.

This Friday I am scheduled to get my last chemo – the same day as the royal wedding – so it will be a unforgettable treatment termination.

Thanks for stopping by and please leave a comment. As I am still a new kid on the “blog” I am gathering experience with writing and experimenting to find the right description of what I am doing.

Another top finished

Since writing the last time I decided to work with the stash Bazaar Style and combine it with some solids also from Pat Bravo – Pure Elements. Here you can see the top finished :

It has been some cutting, sewing and ironing. The man behind the “scenes” is my dear husband Helmut.

Well the work is not over yet as I am still waiting for a promised wadding delivery to my local shop. Katie, the owner, has recently decided to change to “Warm and Natural”  (which makes me super happy) and has started placing orders with here new suppliers. With Easter Holidays – we have a total of 5 days free – everything is a bit slower than usually. Never mind, I have other stashes to work with and shall start right away !!

Untill than, Barbora

Stash converted into a patchwork top

So, I have been busy over the weekend. Due to nice weather, I decided to do some spring garden work. I had a few (i.e. many) pots that either needed new plants or replanting and plant dividing. This was my activity on Friday and Saturday afternoon, but now I am through. Sunday was just about relaxing in the sun – my muscles were aching, as since starting the chemo I am not exercising too much. Well, pots and soil can be really heavy!!

OK, Patchwork is for me also a relaxing activity. So I distributed all individual blocks and  finished today piecing the top. The quilt sandwich is prepared for pinning.  I must still think about the quilting pattern, but it will be most definitely with straight lines.

I am quit happy with the result, but it needs a few more hours to finish it.

Happy stitching, Barbora
