The Horizon top is ready to quilt, but instead of starting working on a large throw, I decided to make a set of 4 cushion covers for my Mum’s neighbor Eliska.
Eliska was a big help for my Mum when she broke her arm and could not cook. Eliska made for her all warm meals over a period of 6 weeks. These cushion covers are for the sofa in her kitchen where all cupboards are in orange. I made my “classical” set of cushion covers using half-square triangles. But my favorite stays the hourglass block. I selected a strong orange quilting thread from Mettler. First I had out an off-white quilting thread but the orange is more visible.
On the above collage you can already see the backing fabric. I have sewn 4 backs with a zipper closure. I use this tutorial from Riley Blake.
All photos have a bit different colors. We had very variable weather over the weekend, starting with blue skies and sun, getting cloudy and today we have strong winds and some rain. All photos were taken this time inside, outside the cushion covers would fly away.
The cushion covers on the working table in my sewing room.
Set of 4 Cushion Covers

And this can happen when you sew over pins, so be very careful :
And as last a photo is of a very happy cat – Mikesch enjoying a nap on the sofa.
I’ll be linking this week with Lets Bee Social at Sew Fresh Quilts and Needle and Thread Thursday at My Quilt Infatuation.
Have wonderful week and happy quilting!
